BOTOX (Botulinum Toxin Type A) has become an increasingly popular means as a short term substitute to cosmetic surgery to reduce facial wrinkles. Such may include frown lines, horizontal forehead lines, crow feet around the eyes and a variety of lines around the mouth. The BOTOX injection causes the muscles in the face to relax, softening and sometimes completely eliminating the vertical lines.

What is BOTOX?

BOTOX is a pharmacological substance which selectively interacts with muscles. BOTOX injections perform their function at the junction of the motor nerve and the contracting muscle unit. BOTOX injection’s interaction continues between 4 - 8 months in most patients. At the end of this BOTOX interaction, the muscle will recuperate its original power and shape, and regain its full muscle function, unless of course further BOTOX injections are administered.

The side effects of the procedure are minimal and swelling or bruising may occur.* Other medication or drugs may act to increased or reduce the effectiveness of the BOTOX injections. Therefore patients should advise their doctor if they are on other medication or drugs, such as antibiotics.

How it is administered?

Using a very thin needle, BOTOX is injected directly into the targeted muscles. The procedure is reasonably painless.

How long does Botox injections last?

In most patients, the results of the BOTOX develop two to seven days results after the injection, and continue working for 4 – 8 months depending on the patient, the size and strain of the muscle and the concentration of the BOTOX solution injected.
